Fresh Air Kelowna Vlog: Brian’s Weather Report, The Comfiest Ski Boots, SilverStar in the House

All right guys, here we go, new vlog. It's happening, it's wintertime. Everybody's excited, snow's falling, and dusting off the snowboards and ski gear in Kelowna. Every fall it's like a roller coaster of emotions. You're excited for ski season, hockey season, football season.

Part of me, I just don't think I can take it. I mean, I'm a Leaf's fan. It's been a rollercoaster season. I just hope they start winning soon. Starting to get texts and stuff about them not making the playoffs. It's still early in the season. I'm very confident they're gonna make the playoffs and I hope they're gonna win a round or so. But hey, you never know. That's why they play the games. The hockey has been amazing. Every team's doing really good. It's just fun watching and I just wish Toronto was winning a little bit more.

Awesome on the snow side it has been fantastic. We have Chantelle in today from SilverStar talking about what's going on at the resort. All the exciting things we got going on. Here's Chantelle:

Chantelle

Hey, everyone. I'm Chantelle, I'm the Communications Manager at SilverStar Mountain Resort. We have tons of events planned for the year. This is really the first absolutely normal ski season that we've had since pre pandemic, so we're excited to get everybody out there, get on the mountain. Get on to skisilverstar.com and learn all about the mountain!

Ryan

Awesome, thank you for coming in again. I know you're super busy in the fall, but it's always exciting watching all the little weather reports and webcams coming on, how much snow everybody's getting. It's been a fantastic fall build up. The mountain's opening so soon. If you have a chance to check it out, it's kind of addictive to see it every day. But it gets everybody excited.

And talking about snow, we got our weather guy Bri Bri, he's gonna give us a little report. Here we go Bri:

Brian

Hey, everyone, it's your favourite underqualified weather reporter. We're up here about six kilometres north of Malakwa, or 17 kilometres, I guess. It's snowing. It's gonna be a bit colder this week, don't forget to bundle up. Maybe come into the ski shop and get yourself a brand new pair of ski socks. The Dissent ones are mighty fine.

But for us here today, it is so incredibly deep. Oh baby, the turns are deep and the weather's sweet. We're going to have about 25 to 30 centimetres on the ground by the end of the week. Don't forget to bundle up. Get some extra layers. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air!

Ryan

Awesome thanks Bri. It's always good to see you out in the snow enjoying the weather. Everybody, the resorts are opening and getting ready for the season.

And we got our boot wizard Johnny and today is going to talk about the new ski boots coming in and what's got him excited for the season. He's going to give you some tips on boot fitting. Here's Johnny:

Johnny

For this season, I am super pumped to get as many people into the most comfortable fitting ski boots. Last year, I don't know if many people came in and saw, we have Nordica now back on the wall. Had a couple of year hiatus from the store. They're absolutely crushing it with their boots.

Great fit, great liners, super adjustable. So we get cuff alignment on these boots very easy to work on to make sure that you're going to have your best stay on the hill.

If it has been a while since you've been, we've got some new boot fitters here. All of our experienced boot fitters are there to make sure that your boots are the most comfortable thing on the mountain. They're going to be warm, they're going to be comfortable, and they're going to keep you out skiing all day.

If you haven't experienced one of our boot fits, we do a full foot analysis with you. We're going to spend at least 10 to 15 minutes just analyzing your foot and your anatomy to figure out what boot is going to be the best for you. Once we get through that portion, we eliminate most of those boots on the boot wall. So if you come in, we have a huge boot wall. If you look at it you're gonna be like holy smokes, there are forty boots up there. I don't know what I need.

We're going to steer you in the right direction. We're going to take you through a guided discovery tour for how you should feel in the boot, and what you should expect, and then boom, we’ve got the best fitting boot on your foot for happy days on the mountain.

Ryan

Awesome. Thank you, Johnny. It's amazing. Proper fitting boots make a world of difference on the hill. Warm feet, comfortable feet you're gonna enjoy it way better. Come in, let the guys take a look and we'll get you out on the hill.

Alright, guys, that's a wrap. We're on the countdown, keep watching the weather reports, and snow cams, snow's coming. The mountains are opening. Get out and enjoy the fresh air.

Winter is coming and so is the action at our sports stores, Kelowna! We’re here for expert advice and boot fittings for your skis or snowboards to get you ready for the hill. See what’s in store.
