The Back-Story

Backcountry Access (BCA) was born in 1994 from the shared passion of backcountry enthusiasts in Boulder, Colorado. Since its inception, BCA’s mission has been to innovate avalanche safety gear to enable anyone and everyone to enjoy the backcountry, whether cross-country skiing, professional skiing, or even snowboarding.

Their determination resulted in a series of milestones, beginning with the launch of the first digital transceiver, the Tracker DTS, in 1996. Their steady drive led to the introducing of the revolutionary Float Avalanche Airbag System, BC lInk Radios, and snowmobile-specific avalanche safety products. They went on to be one of the first organizations to strategize shoveling and searching techniques for the benefit of all. Today, BCA has gained a global reputation as the preferred backcountry safety brand for avalanche professionals, skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers.

Guiding Principles

Safety is the main factor propelling BCA's efforts, and safety is the key to success in the backcountry. BCA strives to provide access to the backcountry and perseveres with innovation in snow science and rescue technology. They lead not only with forward-thinking but also with education and aim to foster inclusivity for all, irrespective of skill level, ability, background, or discipline.

The Dream Team

Backcountry Access develops its outdoor gear in collaboration with North America’s leading avalanche educators and mountain guides. Some of the industry’s renowned athletes also test the gear and sports clothing.

From big mountain skiers to backcountry snowboarders, snowmobilers, guides, avalanche educators, and forecasters, BCA’s team of athletes and ambassadors leave no stone unturned in testing pilot gear under varying conditions and situations related to winter sports activities as might be encountered at the backcountry.
