Family Day Skiing at Big White & SilverStar | How Fast Do You Ski?

Family Day weekend is here, and conditions in the Okanagan are looking unreal. Sunshine, great snow, and prime cruising laps—this is what winter is all about.

After a couple of weeks of watching from the sidelines, it was finally time to get back up the hill at Big White Ski Resort… and it got us thinking:

How fast do you actually ski?

What’s Your Cruising Speed?

We hear it all the time in the shop—customers talking about how stable their skis feel, how fast they’re riding, what they love and what they’d change.

But when you're not bombing straight down…
When you're carving turns, flowing through runs, maybe dipping into the trees…

???? What’s your real cruising speed?

Everyone has a different comfort level, and that’s part of what makes skiing so fun.

Radar Gun Test at SilverStar

So we decided to take things up a notch.

We grabbed a radar gun and we’re heading to SilverStar Mountain Resort to put it to the test. Not top speed. Not straight-lining.

Just real-world skiing:

  • Carving turns
  • Flowing down runs
  • Riding at your natural pace

We want to see what that number actually looks like.

How Many Runs Can You Do?

That also brings up another question…

How many runs can you realistically knock out in an hour?

On one quick solo session:

  • 6 runs in under 40 minutes
  • Mixing groomers, trees, and lift lines

So what’s the limit?

  • 6 runs in an hour?
  • 8 runs?
  • 10 runs?

We’re going to test that too.

Try It Yourself

Want to see how you stack up?

We’ll have the radar gun available—if you want to try it out for yourself, swing by the shop and ask. It’s all about having fun, pushing your limits, and seeing where you’re at.

Get Out There This Weekend

Family Day weekend is the perfect time to get up to the mountains, enjoy the sunshine, and make the most of the conditions.

Whether you're chasing speed, stacking laps, or just cruising with friends—get out there and enjoy the fresh air.
