Fresh Air Kelowna Vlog: MTBco, Grand Opening Thank Yous, Bike Season!
All right, here we go, another Fresh Air Kelowna vlog. It's the middle of April. It's kind of a crossover season, but what an end to the ski season. The snow was fantastic. It kept going to the end. The conditions at both Big White and SilverStar were amazing this winter. Fingers crossed to get another year like that next year.
Always a staff favourite going over in the middle of April. It's the hockey playoffs. It is so exciting. We've got some bets going on in the sports store, a little trash talking, uncle Wayne sorry, I'm not sure what Cole's up to this year, but I know he's not playing hockey. Maybe next year. But the games are great. Everybody's playing well. It's touch and go. And as always, let's go Leafs.
On top of that, it's bike season. Snow's melting, Kelwona mountain biking trails are opening up. We’ve got an open house coming up on May 7 For MTBco and the West Kelowna Trail Crew promoting what they're doing. And all the bike shops are going to be there showcasing all the new bikes for this year from every brand. Make sure you come down, check it out and get your membership. We're up to like 400 memberships. Proceeds go to making trails, infrastructure and building more trails. So come on out support the club, support the bike shops, give some high fives we'll see you guys there.
We are very fortunate. We’ve got Diane today from MTBco. She's going to talk about some events going on. So here she is.

Hi, Diane here from Mountain Bikers of the Central Okanagan. We've got exciting plans for the season ahead. Coming up next we have our second community trail day which will be at Crawford on April 29. And then Saturday, May 6 is International Women's Mountain Biking Day which we will be celebrating in style at Crawford, starting with adult group mountain bike rides in the morning followed by a barbecue, games and activities for all ages in the afternoon.
The next day, Sunday May 7, is our second annual season kickoff in collaboration with West Kelowna Trail Crew Society. Come see us at Redbird Brewing between noon and four. We'll have the bike shops there, we've got Big White there, they're going to have some prizes, showing some short films. Come find out what we all have planned for this season ahead, get the inside scoop on what's coming up at Gillard. What's been going on at Fresh Air Kelowna? We actually had our grand opening of our new Dilworth store last weekend. This was a three and a half year project. You know how hard it is to find commercial real estate in this city? Not only that, how hard it is to get a commercial real estate agent to call you back. I must have made hundreds of phone calls. Nobody calls me back. But we were pretty particular, we knew what we're looking for. We're looking for just the right property. Finally, a bike shop with parking space. I think we nailed it.
We found a great partner, a great community partner as well. I hope everybody had a great day. I hope everybody comes in and sees the new space and everything we're able to provide for the Kelowna cycling community.
When we started planning the open house it was all kinds of ideas flying out, boom, boom, clowns, bouncy castles, balloons and games. We ran this contest. We had amazing results. Everybody. Thank you for the comments you made. It was great to see so many people who have been shopping at the store for decades. It means a lot to us. It means you're working in the right direction.
Our games we had 10 contestants, we had five prizes, we had five games. It was a lot of fun. We had a couple of winners going on. Unfortunately, they got eliminated. We had a come from behind victory rate at the end to a family who never skied before. They're super excited with the grand prize and they're all going skiing next winter so it's great to see. We'll see everybody on the slopes.
And it would not be possible to thank the guys from SJT Contracting enough. Josh, Jeremy and Shea did a fantastic job. This dream actually came through with a cardboard box, seat bike tubes and a case of water bottles. They thought it was absolutely crazy. But as we worked, it all worked out. Again. Thank you, their general contractor. They did a fabulous job. Thank you. We're super happy with the store and I hope everybody else is, now get out and enjoy the fresh air.
